The New Addition

The Soon To Be New Addition To The House Of Booyens:

We are Pregnant....

Gregg and I found out on the 3rd November 2007 that I was pregnant and that we were going to be parents.
I was feeling strange and was chatting to Mishka who was convinced that all the symptoms that I had mentioned were due to the fact that I was pregnant. We decided to meet for pancakes on the Saturday and she said that she would get me a pregnancy test.
When she arrived we quickly went to the bathroom to do the test. The two lines came up so quickly and Mishka was so excited. I was in a bit of denial and told her that we still had to wait a few minutes for it to take. But a positive test is a positive test.
I was excited and couldn't believe that I had finally fell pregnant.
We returned to the table where we were having pancakes and I pulled Gregg aside and told him that I was pregnant. Gregg had such a smile on his face and he seemed happy, and I think a bit shocked as well.
We wanted to keep it quite until the 3 months was up and the first trimester had passed, but by that afternoon all our friends and family knew and by Sunday morning our whole church knew.

We went for the first scan on the 14th November and got to see our baby's heartbeat. It was incredible and so amazing to know that this little life was inside of me and that Gregg and I had made that little life.

The next few weeks were very stressful for us and we had a lot to deal with.
I was retrenched at the end of September and fell pregnant at the beginning of October. We are not on medical aid and now had to think about how to deal with all of this. It was going to be very straining for us financially, but we were still happy about the baby and look forward to having a baby in the house.
God's timing is a funny thing.... In me getting retrenched it has forced me to start my own thing from home, which when the baby is here will give me time to spend with my child. It is taking a while to get going, but it is all in God's hands.

December for us was great. We had Gregg's family here in the beginning of December and my mom and Rob here for about the last two weeks of December. The grannies spoilt Baby Booyens so much and I am running out of cupboard space. I think that they are looking forward to being grandparents.
It was such a blessing to have them here... They helped us so much. They bought the food and paid for everything, as well as spoiling us with presents and taking us out for dinner often.

On the 4th January we went for our second scan and Gregg and I had a great fear that the scan would be done and the baby would be dead because of all the stress that we had gone through. When the ultrasound was done we got to see our baby and hear the heartbeat for the very first time which was so amazing. It brought a tear to my eye and I couldn't believe that it was our baby. The doctor told us that the heart monitor will aggravate the baby a bit and will get the baby to move, but when the monitor was switched off the baby kept sleeping. All we got was a stretch and the baby turned over and went back to sleep.

My mom blessed us with air tickets for Mango airlines, which came at the right time. A friend of ours, Quinton Montagu-Church, was getting married on the 6th January, so we decided to fly to JHB for the weekend. We arrived in JHB on the evening of the 4th January and went through to Caro's house. We spend time with them that evening and then on Saturday evening we went through and got to spend time with my mom where she blessed us with grape leaves, cabbage rolls and lots of nice food.
On Sunday morning we had a great breakfast with my in-laws. It was lovely... We had really good family time.
Sunday afternoon we left for Quinton's wedding which was at Irene Country Lodge. They had a lovely wedding and the venue was beautiful and we got to spend some good time with friends.

Back to Baby Booyens news....
On Monday morning Gregg had to do some work, so my mom and I decided to go and see my cousin Gabi at the hospital and got her to do a scan for me. I thought it would be special for my mom to see. We were greatly surprised.... Baby Booyens was wide awake and was so active. We got to see baby sucking his / her thumb and kicking and stretching his / her legs. It was so cute... And I was very grateful that my mom go to see the baby, but a little sad as well that Gregg wasn't there to see the active side of our baby.
Well I think for the next scan I should drink a coke or something to wake the baby up... Maybe we will get lots of movement out of little one. The next scan for me is going to be very exciting because we should be able to find out what we are having. I am really looking forward to that.

Watch this space, we will keep you posted.....
